Director & Chairman
Garry is a grain grower and livestock producer, cropping around 5,000 ha at Coomandook in the Upper South east of South Australia. He has served in a number of senior positions in the grains industry including; Grower Elected Director of AusBulk Ltd and United Grower Holdings Ltd, Director Grains Council of Australia, Chairman SA GRDC Research Advisory Committee and deputy chair SA Grains Council.
Jamie Smith F Fin MAICD
Jamie grew up on his family’s dry land cropping (cereal and pulse), meat and wool production farms on the Yorke Peninsula, SA, and has devoted much of his working life to the farm and farming community.
In addition to his role as General Manager at AGD, and working on his farm, Jamie provides strategic, risk management and governance advice to industry and government in the agricultural sector at state and national level. Jamie has an extensive range of networks which provide a conduit between industry participants. He has experience in a wide range of business and industry roles, with a strong focus on governance and a pragmatic approach to business management and industry development.
Jamie has qualifications in finance and business management, supported by board level training in leadership and governance. A strong connection with government and departmental sectors at a state and federal level gives Jamie the ability to provide advice and engagement services in this area.
John has had extensive experience in wholesaling perishable produce and in food logistics.
Until 1990 John was Managing Director of the largest banana wholesaler nationally, and in more recent years the Chairman and major shareholder in Harris Refrigerated Transport, which grew under his leadership to be the third largest refrigerated carrier nationally.
During the 80s John was founding Chairman of Adelaide Produce Markets Limited (an unlisted public company) which built and operates the Pooraka Produce Markets (opened in 1988).
John has a passion for growing successful businesses, by persistence and by giving priority to the needs of clients.
Brett is a 5th generation farmer, who lives and works the family farm he grew up on in Balaklava. Brett and his brother Gavin are currently cropping 13,000 acres in the Balaklava and Auburn area.
Brett is a Nuffield scholar having worked and studied extensively throughout North America and Europe specialising in On Farm Storage technology, bringing diverse skill sets to AGD.
Brett has been a past president for the Grains Council and is still a very active member of the grain industry.
Gavin is a 5th generation farmer and brother to Brett, also lives and works the family farm they grew up on in Balaklava. On the family farm Gavin manages much of the accounts, grain marketing and logistics.
Gavin has devoted much of his working life to the farm and farming community.
His broad range of personal and business experience in agriculture means that Gavin has a good understanding of all elements of the agricultural industry.
